Thank You to Juror: Fahimeh Vahdat, Chair of Visual Arts, Howard County Community College for awarding me the Juror’s Award for my three Thailand Temple Ruin photographs in the Art Howard County 2013 Exhibition, on Friday November 8, 2013. The exhibit runs from November 1—December 13, 2013 at the Howard County Arts Council 8510 Ridge Rd., Ellicott City, MD 21043 www.hocoarts.org (410) 313-ARTS
The photographs are black and white and infrared. While visiting these sacred places, I could feel the spirits from long ago. Thailand Temple Ruins I is from the remains of King U Thong’s Ayutthaya kingdom from 1350. Thailand Temple Ruins II is from a monastery from the Ayutthaya kingdom. Thailand Temple Ruins III are known as Wat Mahathat which are the remains from the Sukhothati kingdom that included a royal palace and twenty-six Buddhist temples dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. In the 18th century the Burmese Army destroyed these kingdoms and the fragile ruins are all that remain today.
